Spring cleaning means updating your interior decor and prepping your patio space for warmer days! We sat down with our interior designer and got some insider tips and practices to prep your home for the spring season!
What are some easy ways to freshen up your home for Spring?
I first say to go through your home and remove anything with dark colors, heavy textures, or has a winter vibe. After doing this is also the best time to do a bit of spring cleaning!
Change out your pillows, throws and other “heavy” textiles…this is an easy and inexpensive way to freshen up your home. Layer shades of creams and whites with different textures and patterns. Soft pastel rose, blues and greens are in this spring! The furniture store "At Home" has so many accessories in these colors this time of year to bring into other areas of the room. If you don’t have a lot of room for storing out of season pillows, Pottery Barn and Etsy have many pillow covers to choose from and are so much easier to store! Remove your heavy bedding and put lighter cotton comforters, pillows and throws on your beds.
Switch out your candles to white or cream with scents such as lemon, citrus, or florals
Natural woven textures look great for spring! Jute, Rattan and Wicker can be used in placemats, stacked wicker boxes, and trays. Make vignettes in basket trays with candles and florals in your kitchen or family room, or towels and soaps in the bathrooms. They look beautiful yet practical on guest beds with some magazines and guest towels.
Add in some natural wood to lighten the room…even if you have darker wood accents you can add some chunky natural wooden candlesticks or layer natural wooden cutting boards in your kitchen to coordinate with the wicker accents in other areas of the room.
Switch out your heavier florals and arrangements with clear glass or white ginger jars with long leafy twigs or spring flowers such as creamy white hydrangeas. Clear apothecary jars in different shapes/sizes look great with tall spring twigs or forsythia. Add lemons and limes for a colorful filler, or pastel/neutral colored eggs around the sprigs for Easter.
Also for Easter, you can integrate moss covered or wooden bunnies into your vignettes as well as nests with eggs, still in keeping with a more natural theme. These also look great in long dough bowls (also available at At Home…are you seeing a theme here of where I shop! 😊)
On the outside, now is the perfect time to clean out all your winter greens from your urns and containers. In a few weeks you can plant pansies and add tall sprigs in the center for height. Put out a new sisal look mat and hang a spring wreath on the door.
Happy Spring!
