Comprised of premiere home builders and top tier communities, Ideal Living published their 2022 list of the most desirable places to retire in the United States. Each year, Ideal Living readers are surveyed to determine the most desirable locations and amenities a planned community can offer. Distinguished by region, Ideal Living highlighted the Mid-Atlantic states. The magazine author said it best by summarizing the area as the “perfect space to settle down without having to settle.” In the Mid-Atlantic region, homeowners experience a four-season climate, serene living, and beautiful scenic areas all with the added conveniences of nearby towns and cities.
The “America’s 100 Best Places to Live” list for 2022 features two Landmark Homes communities: The Crossings at Sweetbriar and Cortland Park. Ideal Living had great things to say about both communities:
“The Crossings at Sweetbriar residents have their own private community clubhouse for meetings and special events, plus walking and biking trails through more than 20 acres of preserved open space. But Sweetbriar’s most desirable amenity may be its tranquil location in the rolling farmlands of central Pennsylvania. Historic sites and seasonal farmers’ markets make everyday trips an adventure. The nearby town of Lebanon features fine and casual dining restaurants, retail stores, antique shops, and cultural centers like the Gretna Theatre. The Iron Valley Golf Course tops the list of local outdoor-recreation venues, while the Wellspan Good Samaritan Hospital and the Lebanon VA Medical Center offer top-rated health care services. Just a short drive to the southwest is the state capital of Harrisburg, the regional center of commerce and culture.”

“Cortland Park, a 55+ community in Mechanicsburg’s prestigious Winding Hills, is Landmark Homes’ newest addition to the neighborhood. Set among 380 acres of scenic Cumberland Valley countryside, Winding Hills offers an experience unlike any other: a resort-like community comprised of distinct homes, surrounded by nature, but minutes from the area’s best in dining, shopping and recreation.”
The common theme in our Pennsylvania 55 and older communities is the relaxing and tranquil environment. In addition, Pennsylvania offers significant tax benefits to retirees; retirement income is non-taxable. Pennsylvania residents enjoy warm summers, moderate winter days, a blossoming spring experience, and some of the most beautiful fall foliage the United States has to offer. Tucked into the rolling country hills are charming clusters of Amish-populated areas, timeless architecture, and roadside farm-fresh produce stands. Residents can leave the rural atmosphere and travel to large cities with ease. Great for visiting family members, both Landmark communities are only an easy two-hour drive from the major travel hub of Philadelphia. New York City, New Jersey, and Pittsburgh are nearby travel destinations as well, making it simple to travel to and from.
