Adding large bows into the greenery on your mantle, furniture pieces, or at the base of your stairs is a cost effective way to add a nice pop of color to your décor. Hobby Lobby and Michael's have a great selection of ribbon to choose from. It's best to use wired ribbon because it gives the bow more volume and is easier to adjust while in use or after being in storage. The back of dining chairs as well as on lanterns are also great places to add bows to give a festive touch!
Faux fur can add a cozy feel to your home. Store those spring/summer pillows and throws away for the winter season. The neutral colors of faux fur pairs well with a wide variety of décor pieces. To add a pop of color you can bring in a chunky yarn throw or plaid prints. Home Goods would be a great place to look for these.
You wouldn't want to forget the outside of your home though! A wreath on your front door is always a nice option, but adding lights to bushes and trees is great as well. You can tie wreaths to the backs of benches to add a little extra flare, and place greenery in your pots or urns that were once home to flowers during the warmer months. You can often get free greens from your local Christmas tree farm and add artificial berries to them. This should last all winter!
It's a wonderful time of year to incorporate family heirloom silver! You can hang trays on the wall with ribbon. Make vignettes of antique pieces incorporating greens and candy canes in sugar bowls!
Or bring some childhood joy to your home! Decorate a tree and fireplace with colored lights and plaid accents to bring a warm and cozy feel that will fit well with childhood ornaments!
If you have French doors you can add a wreath to them with a ribbon either push-pinned or stapled to the top of the door. Mirrors or breakfast room windows are two other great places to hang wreaths.
Often forgotten are the bathrooms! You can keep it simple by just adding a sprig of greenery to a basket, or a reindeer and Santa and a wrapped present to the counter.
Wrap empty boxes of varied sizes with assorted wrapping paper and wired ribbon and place them in different areas around your home. Place them on trays, in baskets, on the bathroom counters, even on the bed during the day! Once the holidays are over, you can store them in a large bin to reuse next year!
